B’nei Shaare Shalom definitely set the bar with our Sukkot party. After a few weeks of preparation, the day finally came and I don’t think any of us knew what to expect. College and high school kids shopped for food and supplies together to help make this night a success. It was great to see the different age groups working together.
As people shuffled in, they were greeted by an all-you-can-eat BBQ dinner and salad bar. After some time, our intended Sukkot “celebration” began to wind down. Now if you don’t know the Shaare Shalom mentality, then you don’t know how we create fun out of nothing. For example, we had a few extra untouched whole watermelons that were not going to be eaten. But that’s no problem for our committee. Our groups’ adventurous minds decided to cut the watermelons, and have a watermelon eating contest. Participants dove into this head first and put on a spectacular show. Congratulations to our winner Isaac Levi, President of the High-school committee.
Thank you to (our favorite) DJ Mikey Darwish and Ikey Maya who were able to make a line of chairs into a half-hour activity full of upbeat energy. Who knew that musical chairs could be such a competitive sport? Our k’nis could file as an Olympic sports team. After many rounds of stop and go, Sara Rezak finally took the cake.
Shout out to Issac Esses, BSS President, for bringing back the old “I-am-sitting-on-a-chair” game. We all got a little bit lost from all of our additional rules but everyone had a great time. Congratulations to Marlene Levy, President of High-School Committee, on being the last woman standing. (We promise this wasn’t rigged!)
